Awsome site guys!! Great information available on your site, you certainly put a lot of thought into it. It's been about 7 years since Ive been back Carrot River and looks like it may be about time to get back for a visit. I grew up in Carrot River and moved away in 1980. I have made a few trips back since then, but this is the longest stretch I've gone without seeing the praires. I think winter might be a great time to see Carrot River this year.

Great Web Site- My grandfather and his brother homesteaded the Moose Range in 1912. My dad was born in a log cabin (we have a picture, hides and snow shoes on the walls) in 1921. They later moved to California.
My grand father and his brother were there when the town was named. He had many many stories of swamps, growing wheat, swamps, moose hunting, and swamps...also the winters!!!!

I live in Masschusetts and I have never been able to have the chance to go to Carrot River, but my uncle (Harold Lee) says its really nice up there and that everyone works hard and that its a great place. I know Chris Classen and Greg Classen the Goalie and Forward for Merrimack College. They're great hockey players and try their hardest on the Ice. Well i gotta' go the UMass vs. Merrimack game! Looking for town sites in Saskatchewan in preparation for an upcoming family reunion this summer and my eyes popped when I saw Carrot River in the list. My dad Ken, John & Peter Knudsen had a sawmill north of CR back about 25 years ago. One winter I think 1971,72 we lived in CR I went to school & play hockey there I was maybe 10, does anybody remember me or us please contact me email. I grew up in Carrot River. I completed all my schooling there and graduated from high school in 1962. I was in the first class to go through high school and graduate from what was then the "new" school. It seemed to be such a big building then! My parents, Emil & Lillian Wilm, spent most of their adult lives in Carrot River. My grandparents, August & Marie Nicloux, farmed about 2 miles west of town. During high school, I worked part time in the O.K. Economy and Co-op stores. I carried, packed and delivered groceries for most of the people in town and in the country for about 30 miles around. I used to know just about every family in the area, at least by name. I have many fond memories of growing up in Carrot River and I've been back many times over the years, the latest visit being last summer. I must say that the town used to be a lot more vibrant. Main street was a beehive of activity, especially on Saturday, when the rural folk came to town to shop and visit. You had to get down town early to get a parking spot! Now it seems to rather dead. But that's progress I suppose. Anyway, I'm glad I've found my old home town on the net and I've book-marked the page for future reference. Is there, by chance, a local history book for Carrot River and area?

Sorry about that the first one took off before I could type more then four words. It gave the old heart strings a little tug to see my old home town listed on the net. My parents Harry and Katherine Seller came to Carrot River in 1939/40 and homesteaded 3 miles from the town of Carrot River. I was born in the old hospital in Carrot River on Mothers Day May 9,1943. My parents sold their farm in 1957 and moved to Regina. I have only managed to return to Carrot River once since then but still hold very fond memories of a wonderful place to grow up with kind and giving neighbors and friends. Great site - brought back many happy memories - my three sons Justin, Taylor and Parker and I used to live in Carrot River 1985-1999 and have many great friends from Carrot River - enjoyed the snowmobiling pictures the most! I visited your town last November. I went on my first Whitetail Deer Hunt with Timberland Outfitters. Hi to all, It was a very pleasant surprise, when I found Carrot River on the web. I was so excited to be able to see as much as you had on the net.It was as if I had my home town right in my own home. So a big thanks to all who put all the work into this on for all to see. It is also nice to see that the town is doing so good, Keep up the good work. I will tell you a little about me. My name was Beverly Slusar. I was born in Carrot River in 1948, we lived on the farm 8 miles out off town, at the Slusar store, which many will remember. My parents are Toney and Mary Slusar, my Grandparents were George and Mary slusar. My parents Toney and Mary Slusar are now living in Edmonton since 1998 and are in good health.I have many happy memories from the farm and also being in town. I left many friends when we moved away, it was never the same, as the fun I had living on the farm.I was back in Carrot River many times and have seen the changes. It was very sad to see the store being taken down, But I do understand that it had to be done. I have pictures and memories that I will always have. It is also nice to be able to read about people, that had also lived in Carrot River and still do. So thanks again for sharing this site with us all.

Carrot River holds a special place in our hearts since my husband's brother and sister live there. When spending time on the web, I decided to look up any information on your town. I was surprised at how much information was included in the site. It's great and user friendly for someone new to the internet. I visited Carrot River for the first time in April, 1997 and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband has spoken many times of moving to Carrot River. I'm not quite ready for that but when I remember the friendly people, I can almost see it happening.

What a wonderful site! I feel homesick all over again. My youngest daughter, granddaughter and I visted Carrot River last Summer. I was born there in 1937. My father homesteaded in Petaigan until he had health problems. We then moved into town. Father died in 1949 and our mother moved us to Surrey, BC to live with her folks. Our vist last Summer though short, was very meaningful to me. I met some wonderful people. I would welcome correspondence from anyone from my era. Continued success with your page.

I was born here 46 years ago and I still enjoy coming home to visit my family and friends. I was raised in the country and I love to come back to the country way of life. It seems the stars shine brighter at night in Carrot River than they do in Saskatoon. So it is a wonderful place to be.

Carrot River is my home town. I have lived in California since 1965 but I visit Red Deer every summer to see my family. I take my mother with me and we visit Carrot River as often as we can. I was very impressed with the changes made to the downtown area a year ago when I attended the 40th school reunion. I was sad to see some of my favorite landmarks gone but as a whole, the town was so clean and bright and welcoming. I wish everyone continued success at bringing Carrot River into the new century! My home is Orkney, Scotland. I am currently trying to write an account on the life of an ancestor of mine named Magnus Twatt. Magnus left his native islands of Orkney in 1771 to work for the Hudson’s Bay Company first as a labourer and carpenter.
From 1791 until 1795 he was almost continually in charge of Cumberland House.
After a brief trip back home he returned. In 1798 he was in charge of Carlton House and later established a house at Setting River. In 1801 Magnus died on a trip to Carrot River and was buried by his Indian companions there. A report states that he left two sons. However, I have not been able to trace them. I know he had an Indian wife, Margaret, and daughter, Elizabeth, who married Alexander Bremner. They lived in St. John’s, Red River Settlement.
Magnus left money in trust to build and maintain a school, along with money for the poor, in the parish of Orphir, Orkney.
Can anyone help to locate his burial place or trace his family?
