The Carrot River Community Centre, skating arena, opened in 1981 originally, and had artificial ice added in 1990.

In 1998 spectator glass and insulation of the walls completed the building, making the building one of the most modern arenas in the northeast. A full program of minor hockey and figure skating is offered in addition to Junior   "B" hockey and adult recreation hockey teams.

Tennis court and playground equipment are located in the center of Town on the grounds of the Carrot River Elementary School. Pioneer Place senior’s recreation hall offers many recreational opportunities for seniors including cards, snooker, carpet bowling, bingo and other events. A fitness center challenges participants to enjoy their physical strength and endurance.

Carrot River really is the center for an almost endless list of recreation opportunities. It is a thirty-minute drive to Tobin Lake, world famous as an outstanding sport fishing destination. It is also thirty minutes to the E.B. Campbell Hydro Station, formerly Squaw Rapids. Tours of the province’s first hydroelectric station are available, and electrified campsites are nearby, along with fishing on the North Saskatchewan River or the northern end of Tobin Lake. Codette Lake is thirty minutes directly west of Carrot River, offering boating and fishing opportunities. The Pasquia Hills forest reserve is thirty miles east of Town and features hundreds of miles of trail systems for both winter and summer use.

Snowmobiling is a rapidly growing winter recreation activity. Carrot River is on Route 66, the Trans-Canada snowmobile trails system. The groomed, signed trails are becoming more popular with families as well as the avid snowmobilers in the district. The trail system near Carrot River is directly linked to routes out of Hudson Bay, Yorkton, Prince Albert, the Hanson Lake Road, and countless other destinations.

The area surrounding Carrot River attracts hunters from all over North America. Game birds such as geese, ducks, sharptail grouse, ruffled grouse, spruce grouse and Hungarian partridge are common. Moose and elk are readily found, particularly north and east of Carrot River. Black bear and white tail deer are also in abundance. There are several local residents who offer guide/outfitting services, often with accommodations right in the middle of the wilderness.
